Abstract: School facilities must adapt to changing schedules, multipurpose uses, and ongoing operational demands while supporting both students and the people responsible for maintaining them. Yet furniture decisions are often evaluated primarily on initial cost, durability, appearance, and warranty, with less attention given to the time and physical effort required to operate that furniture.

This session explores how furniture selection and implementation can contribute to more efficient school operations through the example of the AmTab Motorized Cafeteria Table with Hands-Free Lifting App. Using practical scenarios, video demonstrations, and an operational evaluation framework, participants will examine how coordinated table operation can reduce repetitive individual handling, simplify cafeteria transitions, and help staff allocate more time to other facility responsibilities.

The session will also explore how districts can assess operational requirements before selecting furniture, establish consistent procedures for implementation, and evaluate long-term value beyond initial purchase price. Participants will leave with practical questions and considerations they can apply when evaluating furniture and equipment solutions for school environments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify operational challenges associated with traditional cafeteria table handling, including repetitive tasks, staffing constraints, and frequent transitions between activities.
  2. Evaluate how furniture and equipment selection can influence staff workload, operational efficiency, and the flexibility of multipurpose school spaces.
  3. Apply a practical framework for comparing furniture solutions using implementation requirements, staff time, physical demands, and long-term operational value.
  4. Develop key considerations for implementing new furniture technology, including staff training, operating procedures, safety checks, and integration into daily facility routines.
