Call to Action: Explores how outdoor learning environments can enhance student engagement, creativity, and well-being. As schools seek more flexible and inclusive spaces, the outdoors offers untapped potential for supporting a variety of instructional goals. Attendees will examine key benefits of outdoor learning, design strategies for functional outdoor classrooms, and how durable, student-centered furniture supports usability and adaptability. The course includes real-world examples across grade levels to show how schools can extend learning beyond four walls—creating spaces where students thrive.

Abstract: This engaging session explores the dynamic world of outdoor learning and play, offering attendees the knowledge and tools to bring education into natural and open-air environments. Participants will begin by developing a clear understanding of what outdoor learning is, an educational approach that integrates the outdoors as a rich and versatile classroom. We will also examine the role of outdoor play as a critical component of child development and a foundation for meaningful learning experiences.

Attendees will assess the wide-ranging benefits of teaching outdoors, from enhanced student engagement and improved mental health to increased creativity and stronger connections to the environment. The session will guide participants through the process of designing and creating effective outdoor learning spaces that are safe, inclusive, and curriculum aligned.

Best practices for implementing outdoor learning will be shared, including strategies for maximizing existing spaces, integrating play-based learning, and aligning with educational standards. Whether you’re working with limited outdoor access or planning a dedicated learning garden, this session will provide practical guidance and inspiration to make outdoor learning a successful part of your educational toolkit.
