Abstract: As we constantly realign physical space with evolving hands-on/project-based curricula, we not only uncover new concepts and systems, but we also have discovered that re-envisioning the basic concepts initiated during the second period of the industrial revolution can support future technological and workforce demands. As our current interdisciplinary learning evolves at unprecedented speeds and the spaces in which students learn must evolve with equal intention. This session explores how people, communication and environment can become true partners of instruction. These basic elements support deeper learning and accelerate innovation and creativity while aligning with the skills necessary for future careers.

Participants will examine five essential components of high-impact learning spaces from agility to safety through visual examples, practical strategies, and curriculum-aligned design frameworks. Educators and leaders will learn how to envision environments that strengthen desired educational instruction and empower teaching and learning.

Through proven examples, attendees will leave with a varied criteria for evaluating their current learning spaces, actionable steps for aligning environments with curriculum goals, and a roadmap for forward thinking design that supports both teacher practice and student readiness. Join us as we explore how intentionally unintentional and systematic space design can bridge the gap between where we have been and where we are going.

Learning Objectives:

1. Develop an intentional framework to create systems to reinforce as well as enhance the alignment of educational environments with curriculum goals.
2. Establish the mind shift that not only do teachers have too much stuff… but they will ALWAYS have too much stuff within active learning and it’s our responsibility to create seamless designed solutions to support AGILE learning.
3. Understanding that decluttering can be a systematic approach to a built environment to modify historically cultural approaches to the management of stuff that is fully embedded with agency and inclusion.
4. Realization that authentic space can be successfully achieved through an event of critical collaboration of instruction and curriculum defining the correct range of tools.
