Abstract: This session illuminates the process and proven approach to apply for and implement clean energy grants with K12 schools. Learn more about the tools, funding resources, and best practices for stakeholder engagement to define both the energy performance requirements and educational outcomes with solar and battery energy storage system installation. While a microgrid can provide both energy savings and community resilience benefits, how can these systems enhance CTE alignment, career pathways, and curriculum development opportunities? Our team will walk attendees through every step of completed projects, including several case study examples of recent K12 projects that obtained valuable grant funding to offset 100% of the cost for design and construction of a clean energy project on a school campus.

Brittany is an award-winning school communications professional and educational leader with nearly a decade of experience in district leadership. A former classroom teacher with a master’s degree in education and school administrator certification, she brings a strong understanding of both academics and public relations to her role as Director of Public Relations for Toppenish School District. Her work has earned state and national recognition, including being named one of NSPRA’s 35 Under 35, and she has presented at both state and national conferences. Brittany played a key role in the communication, community engagement, and partnership-building efforts that helped bring Toppenish’s BESS+ microgrid project to life, helping connect an innovative infrastructure project to student learning and the broader community.
Nolan serves as Director of Capital Projects and oversees the new Hurricane Ridge Middles School construction project that received a grant for solar and battery energy storage system installation. The microgrid project is designed to provide energy cost savings and community resilience benefits for the District and community.
Jack specializes in clean energy project development assistance for K12 schools, tribal communities, local government, and nonprofit organizations. He served on the Board of Directors for Solar Washington for 6 years, and 2 years as Board President. With a background in construction management, utility renewable energy program management, solar installation contracting, and clean energy/engineering consulting services at Säzän Group, Jack strives to integrate educational outcomes with students and the community on every project.
